March is recognized across the nation as Arts in Education Month, and in Citrus County we have much to celebrate. The arts play an important role in the education of our students, helping them develop creativity, discipline, collaboration, and confidence. Our students benefit from the strong support of the Citrus County School Board, our teachers, families, and community partners who recognize that the arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education.
Throughout the school year, our district showcases the incredible talents of our students in music, visual arts, and theater. One of the highlights this year was the All-County Honor Band performance in February, where talented middle and high school musicians from across Citrus County came together for an outstanding concert. I had the privilege of serving as emcee for the evening, and it was inspiring to see the dedication of our students and music directors that were part of this amazing experience. We also host the All-County Chorus, bringing together some of the most talented vocalists in our district from elementary, middle, and high school. I am honored to again serve as emcee for this special event as we celebrate the achievements of our student musicians and the choir directors who guide them.
Our visual arts programs are also thriving. Each year we host an Art Reception at the District Office, where student artwork is displayed throughout our buildings. This exhibit showcases the creativity and artistic expression of students from across Citrus County and allows our community to experience the remarkable work happening in our classrooms. Each year there is the Senior Art Show at the Lecanto School of the Arts, which celebrates the accomplishments of our graduating art students and showcases their growth as artists during their time in our schools.
